Chapter eight
Conscience is a verb
Campus organizing, petitions, regulation, and divestment of the mind.
On your campus
Start a GreedLearning chapter: a weekly circle of students across majors and faiths asking the questions this site asks. Begin with a screening of the Forever Peace Now documentary and a discussion panel.
- Demand transparency. Petition your university to disclose all funding, gifts, and partnerships from AGI vendors, and to adopt binding ethics conditions on accepting them.
- Bring conscience to career fairs. Stand — peacefully, lovingly, lawfully — with literature and questions at Big Tech recruiting events. Ask the recruiters, kindly and on the record: “What is your company’s plan for the workers your product replaces?”
- Ask your professors — especially in computer science and business — to devote one lecture per term to the labor and human-rights consequences of AGI. Most have never been asked.
In your faith community
Bring this question to your pastor, imam, rabbi, priest, sangha, or gurdwara: What does our tradition say about a machine built to concentrate the world’s wages? Invite a sermon, a study session, an interfaith letter.
Faith communities moved abolition, civil rights, and anti-apartheid divestment. They can move this.
Toward regulation
Petition lawmakers at every level of institutions, academia, and government for:
- Mandatory labor-impact assessments before large-scale AGI deployment.
- Taxation of automation windfalls to fund displaced workers.
- Antitrust action against AGI vendor concentration.
- A ban on the revolving door between AGI vendors and the agencies meant to regulate them.
- Protection for whistleblowers inside these corporations.
The surveillance economy, the war economy, and the AGI economy are one economy. Supporting the existing petitions is the fastest way to add your name to a demand that already has weight behind it.
With your attention and your wallet
Practice digital minimalism as a moral discipline: every hour of attention you reclaim from their platforms is an hour returned to your studies, your family, and your community. Support cooperatives, credit unions, local journalism, and open-source projects.
With your story
Have you or your family been harmed by corporate greed, war, or the machinery of the tech economy? Share your story through ParentsPlea.com.
Testimony is how movements remember why they exist.
